Obama to Turn it Around?

Posted on 26 January 2010 by Mr. Harrington

It seems that Barack Obama is feeling the pressure of the eternal special interest group, The American People.

The Washington Post is reporting that, during the President’s State of the Union Address, he will propose a federal spending freeze.

That’s right, folks.

For the remainder of his first term in office, Congress would be limited to spending $447 billion on non-military expenditures.

It seems like that would severely limit his legislative aspirations.

But, remember, in the words of O-Man himself,

“I’d rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president.”

And this is all very interesting because Bami criticized McCain’s proposed spending freeze during the campaign, saying something about a scalpel to cut the budget…I don’t know…

I think this is a diversion.  I think Obama is trying to let off some steam now, so, when the elections roll around in November, people won’t be as mad at him.

NSFW: Kevin Jennings’ Book of the Month Club

Posted on 18 December 2009 by Mr. Enos

Editor’s Note: NSFW: “Not Safe for Work” indicates a post contains graphic or offensive subject matter that would not be appropriate in certain settings (i.e. anywhere other than locked in your basement with the doors and windows shuttered). Now you know.

093009_jennings

As I sit in the airport waiting to catch my flight home, half of my sophomore year of college done and behind me, I finally have the opportunity to look into the biggest story no one is covering: Kevin Jennings’ reading habits.

Much has been written in the blogosphere over the past few days about ‘Safe School’s Czar’ Kevin Jennings–an individual whom I covered extensively a few months back. While the previous scandal has been since laid to rest, the newest round of craziness from GLSEN founder is just as insane-–if not more so.

Recently GatewayPundit ran a story about Kevin Jennings’ organization GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) and the books that the organization recommends that young children read. The list is broken up into three different categories–books for kids grade K-6, 7-12, and teachers. The list of books contains literature that covers many and varied genres, from non-fiction to poetry. Supposedly the books are meant to support the stated mission of GLSEN, reproduced below.

From GLSEN’s website:

The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.

We believe that such an atmosphere engenders a positive sense of self, which is the basis of educational achievement and personal growth. Since homophobia and heterosexism undermine a healthy school climate, we work to educate teachers, students and the public at large about the damaging effects these forces have on youth and adults alike. We recognize that forces such as racism and sexism have similarly adverse impacts on communities and we support schools in seeking to redress all such inequities.

GLSEN seeks to develop school climates where difference is valued for the positive contribution it makes in creating a more vibrant and diverse community. We welcome as members any and all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or occupation, who are committed to seeing this philosophy realized in K-12 schools.

That’s all well and good, except some of the books GLSEN recommends are pornographic. The book list is intended to [sic] “furthers our (GLSEN’s) mission to ensure safe schools for all students.”; ostensibly implying that children who identify themselves as homosexual should read these books as a way to empower themselves, and straight children and teachers should also read the books to come to a deeper understanding and develop a respect for their homosexual peers. On its face that is a responsible, well-intentioned goal. However, if one examines even a small sampling of the books on the list, the real goal of the suggested readings become readily apparent. GLESN is not trying to empower anyone, or raise awareness, rather they are using the facade of awareness and concern to promote their twisted hypersexualized agenda, what I can only assume is a twisted aberration of the goals that reasonable that gay men and women aspire to. As an aside, I do not think, nor am I implying that the poison that GLESN is peddling is representative of the entire gay community, rather this is a reflection on Kevin Jennings and the fanatics that staff his loony organization.

The books and the list can be accessed though a portal on their site called “BookLink“, which provides an all-in-one system for parusing and even purchasing in bulk books that teachers are encouraged to make mandatory classroom reading.

Just a few of the books on the list:

Queer 13

Being Different

Growing Up Gay/Growing Up Lesbian

The Order of the Poison Oak

Love & Sex: Ten Stories of Truth

Thus far I have been slightly obtuse in my explanation of exactly what the books contain, after the jump there will be an excerpt from one of the selected books, Queer 13. WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS EXTREMELY GRAPHIC. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Dean Refuses to Get ‘Vigorous’ With Obama

Posted on 18 December 2009 by Mr. Enos

howard-dean-poster-byahhh

Former DNC Chairman, and former presidential contender Howard “YEAHHHH!!!!!!!!!” Dean stated on MSNBC’s Morning Joe that he would not–get this–”vigorously support” President Obama in his re-election bid. Bami still has 3 more years to go… if Howard Dean of all people is already soured on the guy then what does that mean for the rest of his party?

More importantly, what does it mean when Howard Dean of all people is acting like one of the more sane members of the Democratic party? Is the thermostat in hell broken?

Text and video of the exchange on the other side of the break.

Anita Dunn–Done With the White House

Posted on 10 November 2009 by Mr. Enos

AP 2008

AP 2008

Anita “fills Mao’s heart with pride” Dunn will be stepping down as the interim White House Communications Director. Her deputy, Dan Pfeiffer will replace her.

What does that mean?

Most likely, nothing. She still loves Mao, hates FoxNews, probably hates us just for existing and will be replaced by another obama thug who is just as vehement and rancorous.

There isn’t much more to say about this, except that her timing sucks… Obama needs as many PR flacks out there covering his screw-ups and failures as possible right now.

Posted on 21 October 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Seven companies that received bailout money will have their top 25 executives pay cut by about 90% on average.

The treasury Department will announce this in the next few days, according to Yahoo! Finance.

The companies are Bank by America, Citi, AIG, Government Motors, GMAC, Chrysler and Chrysler Financial.

Read–Yahoo!

I told you this would happen…

UPDATE:  CNBC is reporting that the overall pay–including benefits, bonuses, and crap will drop about 50%.

Also, check this out:

“And at all of the companies, any executive seeking more than $25,000 in special perks — such as country club memberships, private planes, limousines or company issued cars — will have to apply to the government for permission.”

I told you.

I goddamn told you!

This is corporate fascism at its finest, ladies and gentlemen.

Kenneth Feinberg is running the show.

How ’bout Hypocrisy Reform?

Posted on 29 September 2009 by Mr. Enos

So an entire summer of pissed off protesting wasn’t enough to get the point across… now supporters of Barry’s health care program–deserving of a death panel in its own right–are asking folks like you and me (well maybe not me) to submit 30 second videos to barackobama.com detailing why you support health care reform for their “Health Reform Video Challenge”.

So what do they want you to talk about? They tell you!

•  Personal stories: It’s hard to get more powerful than sharing a personal story about how the broken status quo has affected you and the ones you love.

•  The cost of inaction: There’s lots to cover about how spiraling costs are breaking the budgets of families, governments and businesses, and the high price we’ll all pay if we don’t act.

•  The opponents of reform: It’s amazing the levels some will stoop in order to score political points or protect their profits. This is your chance to call them out.

Man, nothing makes me want to call my representatives and tell them to mushroom the nation’s defect like a 30 second video from Penny Prius telling me a story about how her grandma died. Didn’t realize that appeals to emotion were logical forms of argument.

BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!

Thats right, folks there are fabulous prizes involved with this contest!

According to the official rules:

One winner will receive the following prize: all or part of the winner’s video may be used in a TV ad associated with DNC’s health reform campaign (approximate retail value: $0).

(emphasis added)

So… you get a prize worth ZERO dollars and the entire nation gets to see you on television calling people out for stooping “in order to score political points”, while the DNC trots you out to… score political points. And you would have consented to having your image and likeness broadcast on television for the purpose of… scoring political points.

Here’s a Harrington Report Top Tip: When recording your video, make sure your camera is positioned correctly so the DNC will be able to clearly see you and your moral high horse in the shot.

Barack Obama: Media Darling.

Posted on 21 September 2009 by Mr. Enos

Most folks are smart enough to realize the media is in, to quote the title of Bernie Goldberg’s recent book, a slobbering love affair with President Barack Obama, but no one really knew just how much love the mainstream media was lavishing on the guy.

According to the Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, the Obama administration has graced the front page of the New York Times 405 through mid-August of this year totaling 119,678 column inches, or 9,973 column feet of Obama coverage on the Times front page alone. That is almost two miles of front-page coverage in the New York Times alone.

Worse still, many critics of the president have called him out for his almost constant media presence, saying that he spends more time campaigning and stumping his positions than he does running the country. Unfortunately for those who support him, the amount of media coverage he receives and the number of interviews he has given–a staggering 66 as of mid-August–gives credence to this claim. During the same amount of time former President George W. Bush gave 16 interviews and Bill Clinton gave a whopping 6.

Maybe the President would do well to spend a little less time on David Letterman’s couch and a lot more time in his chair in the Oval Office…

Well South Park Was Right Again…

Posted on 14 September 2009 by Mr. Enos

Well folks, Obama has officially weighed in on the Kanye West / MTV Video Music Award debacle, calling the intrepid young performer and “genius voice of a generation” a… ready for this– a ‘Jackass’.

…Thanks Barry. Now tell us something that we all don’t already know. Like how you plan to pay for healthcare.

Also, while you’re making asinine remarks about things that have nothing to do with your job as Chief Executive  of the United States, who do you think is going to take it to the Super Bowl this year? I know the season just started, but you seem to have a pretty good handle on long distance timeframes… look at the economy, pretty much exactly where you said it would be right?

But I digress. There is some controversy over what Barack Said about Kanye ‘not a gay fish’ West. Unfortunately, Barack’s statement was made off the record during an interview he was doing with CNBC and apparently an ABC employee, one Terry Moran posted an update to the popular microblogging website twitter.com that said:

While it is no secret that we here at the Report are not Barry’s biggest fans–or Kanye for that matter–we do believe that journalists have a responsibility to use good judgement and be ethical. The fact is that Mr. Moran was a moron for not making sure that President Obama’s remarks were on the record before he posted them and regardless of how poorly Kanye West acted last night at the VMA’s or how deep Barack Obama shoved his foot in his mouth by calling the rapper a “jackass” there is no good reason to impugn the reputation of yourself or your organization simply because you have a phone or computer with internet access.

UPDATE from Mr. Harrington:

TMZ has the audio of Barack Obama saying Kanye is a jackass…

Hear it!

CNN Refers to Conservatives as “Simple.”

Posted on 13 September 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Ladies and gentlemen, CNN’s section on healthcare reform interviewed a gentlemen from Portland Maine.

Joe Ray owns a fish and shellfish company and has seen his sales jump 30% in this economy…obviously he’s doing something right…

“‘I think I’d rather just be left alone,’ Ray said. ‘Just pay my bill and try to deal with it that way.’
A fiscal conservative, he has a simple view of President Obama. “Right now, he is just spending, spending, spending, and I just hope it helps the country,” Ray says.

Hey, fiscal conservatives!  You have a simple view of Barack Obama…But, in this situation, a simple view is all you need…
