NYTimes to Charge for Online Access to Information

Posted on 20 January 2010 by Mr. Harrington

The New York Times will charge for access to online articles, the AP reports.

After all, every newspaper is struggling to stay afloat…

The NYTimes is no stranger to attempting to solicit subscriptions to view their online content.

In the 90s, they were only to attract 4,000 subscribers…

What they plan to do is build a metered system that allows viewers to read a certain number of articles before requiring a subscription.

But, it might work for the Times.  It seems the WSJ has been able to offset the loss in print ads.

NewsCorp. will charge for access for its other websites–not just the WSJ.

This news have you down?

Here’s the bright side…

I won’t be charging you for news content.

Read my lips, no new fees for news.

With that being said…

Information creation isn’t free.

I have costs associated with blogging and, while I can’t ask you to click on my ads…well…you know…

Also, here is a convenient Donate button to help a brother out…

Obama to GOP: “Stop trying to frighten the American people.”

Posted on 16 December 2009 by Mr. Harrington

This is idiotic.  Frankly, it’s the Liberals who are attempting to frighten the American people.

Bami actually said to the GOP, “Stop trying to frighten the American People.”

Are you serious?

Read

Now, that was December 9th.  It’s now the 16th and what does Bami do?

Fearmonger.

“If we don’t pass it, here’s the guarantee….your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you.  Potentially they’re going to drop your coverage, because they just can’t afford an increase of 25 percent, 30 percent in terms of the costs of providing health care to employees each and every year.”

If the Healthcare bill doesn’t pass…“the federal government will go bankrupt.”

“Because if we don’t do this, nobody argues with the fact that health care costs are going to consume the entire federal budget.”

Read

Woah…who’s fearmongering now?

And…as a quick aside…

He said this the same day he signed a $1.1 Trillion spending bill…

Read

And the same day that the House approved a $155 Billion jobs bill…

Read

WHAT THE HELL WAS THE FIRST BILL FOR?  All the shovel ready jobs?!

I thought we already did this…

But to bring it all back…

When Bami says that the federal government will go bankrupt without the Health care bill, does he mean that they’ll stop spending?

UPDATE:  I forgot to mention…

The debt exceeds the debt limit…Good job, folks!

UPDATE: The Mid-Term Election Scorecard

Posted on 03 November 2009 by Mr. Enos

In the first of what some expect to be the first of many Republican coups, Conservative Bob McDonnell trounced his opponent, Democrat R. Creigh Deeds in Virginia. His victory is thought to be tied to heavy support from independent voters.

UPDATES from Mr. Harrington:  LOL @the people chanting “Yes we can!” at the Christie rally.

I do have to laugh at Barack Obama and Robert Gibbs…

Apparently, Bami isn’t watching the returns…Go ahead…keep your head firmly planted in your bum, Mr. President.  Americans are sending you a clear message.

Gibbs also said this isn’t a sign of what will happen in 2010…

“I don’t think, looking at the two gubernatorial races, you can draw with any great insight what’s going to happen a year from now,” he said.

Still watching the Bloomberg results.  NBC had Bloomberg as winner, then reversed that, while the NYTimes continued to have Bloomberg as the winner…

Posted on 21 October 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Seven companies that received bailout money will have their top 25 executives pay cut by about 90% on average.

The treasury Department will announce this in the next few days, according to Yahoo! Finance.

The companies are Bank by America, Citi, AIG, Government Motors, GMAC, Chrysler and Chrysler Financial.

I told you this would happen…

UPDATE:  CNBC is reporting that the overall pay–including benefits, bonuses, and crap will drop about 50%.

Also, check this out:

“And at all of the companies, any executive seeking more than $25,000 in special perks — such as country club memberships, private planes, limousines or company issued cars — will have to apply to the government for permission.”

I told you.

I goddamn told you!

This is corporate fascism at its finest, ladies and gentlemen.

FDIC to Borrow From Banks

Posted on 24 September 2009 by Mr. Harrington

This is idiotic.

The FDIC is considering borrowing money from liquid banks in order to shore up funds.  It may also “impose a special fee on the banking industry.”

Or…they may borrow from the Treasury…

This situation is just all bad…

Cash for Clunkers “Clunked”

Posted on 19 August 2009 by Mr. Enos

A highly reputable source close to the Harrington Report has just informed me that the highly popular “Cash for Clunker” –or the C.A.R.S. program– is going to be shut down in the next 24 to 48 hours in an effort to protect the nations new car dealers from being hung out to dry financially as the funds allocated by the government for the program dry up.

You may remember our report about the first time they suspended the program…we believe that this suspension of the plagued program will be for good.

Check back here for more information as the announcement becomes official.

UPDATE from Mr. Harrington: So the National Automobile Dealers Association polled dealerships and handed the results over to the federal government.

The results are staggering.

“U.S. Transportation Secretary Raymond LaHood announced that, within the next 48 hours, guidance will be issued regarding the process by which the program will be brought to a close.”

After the jump, check out the Memo Sent to Dealerships around the country and updates to the post…

SEIU= Selfish Employees Inhibiting Unity?

Posted on 01 August 2009 by Mr. Enos

California seems determined to take more steps backward than it does forward.

Today, California’s largest state employee union, the SEIU–Service Employee International Union–which represents about 95,000 employees voted on and approved a strike authorization measure in protest of the Governor’s furloughs and to increase pressure on the state to ratify its contracts with SEIU.

Earlier this week, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger made forward progress by signing a bill that would begin closing the state’s 24 billion budget gap, part of that bill includes maintaining the 3 monthly furlough days on state workers, resulting in a 15% decrease in their pay and considerable savings for a government that is strapped for cash. Now, the SEIU is making preparations to strike because “We feel that he (Schwarzenegger) really undermined any kind of a contract deal by pushing these furloughs on folks,” Union representative Jim Zamora said.

Someone ought to tell the SEIU that they can’t have their cake and eat it too: the state can’t close it’s budget gap and continue to irresponsibly overpay state workers. Idiots.

Cars.gov Privacy Statement: Scary Stuff

Posted on 01 August 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Cash for Clunkers may be more than anyone bargained for…

This application provides access to the DoT CARS system. When logged on to the CARS system, your computer is considered a Federal computer system and is the property of the U.S. Government. Any or all uses of this system and all files on this system may be monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected, and disclosed to authorized CARS, DoT, and law enforcement personnel, as well as authorized officials of other agencies, both domestic and foreign.

That is the privacy statement concerning the Dealership access to Cars.gov.

This is scary stuff.  Cars.gov is being used to track and use your filesystem.

UPDATE:  A comment on Hot Air suggests a more sane reason for the language.  Click here to read it.

Apparently, in order for them to share your information, they have to make your computer government property…even so…when a dealer signs up, they are signing over their computers…

UPDATE:  According to Glenn Beck, the language has been taken down and they are working to reword it.  But does that mean they will stop looking at your computer?  Judge Napolitano thinks not…
