Nevada Senator Harry Reid tried to redo his comments about health care and race relations–saying that his point was distorted..
“At pivotal points in American history, the tactics of distortion and delay have certainly been present,” Reid said. “They’ve certainly been used to stop progress. That’s what we’re talking about here. That’s what’s happening here. It’s very clear. That’s the point I made — no more, no less. Anyone who willingly distorts my comments is only proving my point.”
Now, for those of you, by either my fault or yours, who didn’t hear what he said to cause all this “feigned outrage…”
“You think you’ve heard these same excuses before? You’re right. In this country there were those who dug in their heels and said, ‘Slow down, it’s too early. Let’s wait. Things aren’t bad enough’ — about slavery. When women wanted to vote, [they said] ‘Slow down, there will be a better day to do that — the day isn’t quite right. . . .’”
“When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats that we hear today.”
Umm…I’m not even going to touch the first part…race-baiting isn’t my thing…
Now, the second part…
He is also trying to Reido history…
He must be speaking of his ideological colleague, Robert Byrd.
Let’s not forget that Mr. Byrd was an Exalted Kraken Kleaglet…or something…in the KKK…
And let’s not forget that Mr. Byrd filibustered the Civil Rights Bill in 1964–20 years after joining the Klan.
He filibustered the bill for 14 hours…
And he also opposed the Voting Rights Act.
Tell me, Mr. Reid, who resorted to those same filibuster threats?
Those evil Republicans?
