Posted on 30 July 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Fund Balance Remaining for CARS (callout)

So, after 22,700-ish cars, and $96 Million, The Cash for Clunkers program has been suspended…

After many kinks in the system, the Car Allowance Rebate System has been halted.

The suspension is potentially caused by a “backlog.”

UPDATE: July 31, 2009:  Tens of Thousands of vehicles are caught in the red tape of this program.

There have been questions from the very beginning, as to certain rules; such as, does the car need to run?

I did find it odd that social security numbers were not required for participation in the program…

Click here to read the rules…

Now, folks, because of this misstep in a relatively simple government program to run, some are worried that the government wouldn’t be able to run a more complicated program like health care.

“If they can’t administer a program like this, I’d be a little concerned about my health insurance,” car salesman Rob Bojaryn said.

UPDATE:  The White House says they will keep the program funded.

UPDATE:  So, the House voted to move $2 Billion from some program to back loans to the Cash for Clunkers…

Servers down…

So, they really did burn through that Billion bucks in one week…

UPDATE:  Chuckie Schumer wants $2 Billion more–for a total of $4 Billion for the Cash for Clunkers…

Now, I have a question, what does the junkyard get out of this deal?  They can’t part out the engine or anything…They’re getting shafted…

RATHER: "Establish a White House Commission on Public Media."

Posted on 30 July 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Dan Rather wants Barry to form a White House commission in order to save media.

Rather:

“A truly free and independent press is the red beating heart of democracy and freedom. This is not something just for journalists to be concerned about, and the loss of jobs and the loss of newspapers, and the diminution of the American press’ traditional role of being the watchdog on power. This is something every citizen should be concerned about.”

Here is a quote from the Aspen Daily News:

“Corporate and political influence on newsrooms, along with the conflation of news and entertainment, has created what Rather called ‘the dumbing down and sleazing up of what we see on the news.’”

Folks, Mr. Rather is willing to let some democratic principals die away in order to save democracy. His argument is patently false. If there is a White House commission, there will be political influence on newsrooms. This sort of commission could make the media an agent of a federal government.

From the Aspen Daily News:

“The free press, as established by the First Amendment to the Constitution, ought to operate as a public trust, not solely as a money-making endeavor, Rather argued, and it’s time the government make an effort to ensure the survival of the free press. If not the government, he suggested, then an organization like the Carnegie Foundation should take it on. Without action, he predicted, America will lose its independent media.”

Yes, I agree, but, as someone who wants to break into Journalism, I don’t want my news outlet to be run by the government. While journalism is a public trust–which many outlets have lost, it needs to be independent from the government. How can the media be an agent of the government while still being an independent media?

Justice Department Number 3 OK'd Black Panther Reversal

Posted on 29 July 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Folks, As it turns out, those Black Panthers who were released…after they intimidated voters…not by Eric Holder, but rather number three in the DOJ, Associate Attorney General Thomas J. Perrelli.

Now, let me just say, If the President were to listen to his third in line, the country would be run by…oh wait a second…

Oregon Jobs Lasted One Week

Posted on 29 July 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Folks, this is deception if I’ve ever seen it.  The AP is reporting that, in Oregon, lawmakers have spent $176 million to create jobs.

They created 3,236 jobs.  Most of which lasted only 35 hours.  One work week…

From the AP:

“The White House requires states to report numbers in terms of full-time, yearlong jobs. That means a part-time mechanic counts as half a job. A full-time construction worker who has a three-month paving contract counts as one-fourth of a job.

Using that method, the AP’s analysis of figures in Oregon shows the program so far has created the equivalent of 215 full-time jobs that will last three months.”

More from the AP:

“If Oregon’s dollars-to-jobs ratio remains steady, the program will create about 688 full-time, yearlong jobs. So far, it’s generated only enough hours to employ 54 people full-time for a year.”

Is this what is happening nationwide?

Botax

Posted on 27 July 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Botox, face lifts, tummy tucks, hair transplants, etc., may be taxed 10% in order to pay for the $1 trillion health overhaul.

From Congress Daily: “Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucustold reporters he had heard some ‘interesting,’ ‘creative,’ and ‘kind of fun’ ideas.”

Fun taxes?  Is this guy a loon?

The only state that taxes cosmetic surgery is New Jersey.

CONYERS: "What Good is Reading the Bill?"

Posted on 27 July 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Folks, Conyers sickens me.  This isn’t the first time he has made a comment that has made my stomach turn.

Remember when he decided not to investigate ACORN because of the “powers that be?”

Well now he said questioned the congresspeople who advocate reading the healthcare bill…
“I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill.’  What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”

This is almost as bad as them censoring the term “government run” health care in favor of “public option.”

Well what good is trying to keep your job if don’t give a damn about this country?

UPDATE:  In 2004, Barack Obama rips Bush Administration for rushing legislation through congress…

“When you rush these budgets, that are a foot high, and no body has any idea what’s in them, and it gets rushed through without any clear deliberation and debate then these kind of things happen.”

Blood is shooting from my eyes.  This flagrant example of Obama hypocrisy hurts me…

PELOSI: "I Don't Care if I'm Despised."

Posted on 27 July 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the most despised woman in the world doesn’t care.

She went on to say, “I don’t know about ‘trust’ — I think I’m trusted.  I certainly want to be trusted. I’m not particularly concerned if I’m liked.”

Folks, she is so blinded by her ideology that she cannot govern with any amount of credibility.  She has lost touch with America, and she doesn’t care.

Politico had this to say:

Her defenders say there’s always been a strong undercurrent of misogyny in the criticism, a charge lent some credence by the sheer mass of anti-Pelosi vitriol in the blogosphere and in the comments section of news outlets such as POLITICO.

Yes, that’s why people hate Bela, because they hate women…not because of her lack of leadership, her inability to do her job, her statements about waterboarding, her unwillingness to read bills before voting…

Police Acted "Stupidly"

Posted on 23 July 2009 by Mr. Harrington

Folks, Barack Obama thinks that Cambridge police Sergeant, James Crowley, acted stupidly by arresting a man who broke into his own home…

Not just any man…Henry Louis Gates Jr.

But I guess Barry didn’t have the whole story…according to the police report, Gates became belligerent after police came to his home and asked for his information.  He began shouting and soon onlookers arrived.  He began shouting at them as well and police arrested him.

He was shouting, “This is what happens to black men in America!”

http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2009/07/22/alg_henry-louis.jpg

You may recognize the Sergeant’s name…that’s because he’s the same man who tried in vain to save basketball player Reggie Lewis 16 years ago.

It should be known that his department has given Crowley its “full and unqualified support.”

After the jump, check out the police report…

Also, after the jump, see updates.  Is the police officer considering legal action?

California Reaches "Basic Agreement" on Budget…

Posted on 20 July 2009 by Mr. Harrington

UPDATE:  California has passed a budget…check back for more updates…

Here is the previous post…:

Yes, ladies and gentlemen of California, Governor Arnie said today that he and lawmakers had reached a “basic agreement” on a budget…

Just days ago, I reported that California was getting close to a deal…

But will it last?  If it does…we can pay our bills…and maybe no more furloughs…

All Democrats and several Republicans must vote in it’s favor for it to pass.

California socialite, Karen Bass, spoke of the deal, saying “We have closed the deficit. … We have protected the safety net.”

However, the plan includes $15 Billion in budget cuts…

There is also a plan to allow drilling off of the California coast…

However, several state parks will have to close.

All with no tax increases…

Now, keep in mind, this plan isn’t great…it works…and slows the free-fall we were in just days ago…

If they can pass it…
